Ancient Road

[   I am reading a book, coincidentally enough, about an ancient road called the Appian Way.  It is about the murder of one patrician by another, in 53 BC; an event that actually took place. And, here's an internet image of the paving stones that were used to build this important route.   ]

The birch trees in many parts of New England are dying or dead.  A horrible fungal disease has decimated them, and I am sad to think these lovely trees may never again be seen lining nearby roadways and wooded areas.

Together

This prompt got me thinking about gathering rosebuds 'whilst ye may', and then a song started in my head. Remember the grade-school singing of 'We gather together to ask the lord's blessing'?

Yes, Thanksgiving is certainly a time to tune in to giving thanks for everyday, and for everything we've got -food, family, and a warm hearth.  When my family was together during the holiday, we'd go around the table and take our turn recounting that for which we were grateful. On the spur of the moment, and depending on the age of the family member, some of the comments were amusing.  But the message was received, and we all ate the turkey with smiles on our faces.

So, we all need to gather our rosebuds while we may...
